Voters - Where and When to Vote

Elections PEI will administer the upcoming By-election for one (1) councillor in Ward 5 in Summerside.

Advance Voting Days:
1st Advance Voting Day: Saturday September 28, 2024
2nd Advance Voting Day: Tuesday October 1, 2024
(moved from Monday in observance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation)
3rd Advance Voting Day: Friday October 4, 2024.

Election Day: (Also referred to as Ordinary Polling Day)

The Office of the Returning Officer  is open at St. Eleanors Lions Club, 121 East Dr, Summerside.
Office Hours are Mon-Fri 9am-2pm (The office will be open on the first Advance Voting Day Saturday, Sept 28, 2024 8am-7pm)

All In-Person voting will happen take place Credit Union Place, 511 Notre Dame St. Summerside, PEI. 
between 9a.m. and 7p.m. on the designated voting days. (see above).

Who is eligible to vote in a Municipal Elections?

Qualifications of electors :
Unless otherwise disqualified, a person is entitled to vote at an election in a municipality if the person
(a) is a Canadian citizen;
(b) is at least 18 years of age, or will attain that age on or before election day;
(c) has resided in the province for at least the six-month period (April 7, 2024) immediately preceding election day; and
(d) is ordinarily resident in Ward 5 in Summerside on election day

Sect 53

Identification required

(2) Every elector shall provide to the deputy returning officer as proof of identity and place of residence
     (a) one piece of identification issued by the Government of Canada or of the Province of Prince Edward Island that
          establishes the elector’s name and address; or
     (b) any two pieces of other identification or documentation, each of which establishes the elector’s name and at least
          one of which establishes the elector’s address. Alternative means of proof
(3) An elector who is unable to provide to the deputy returning officer the proof of residence required under subsection             
     (2) may
     (a) provide to the deputy returning officer two pieces of identification, each of which establishes the elector’s name;
           and
     (b) complete and sign a statutory declaration in the form approved by the Minister stating either
                  (i) that the elector’s address is as shown on the official list of electors, or
                 (ii) if the elector’s address is different from that shown on the official list of electors, that the elector is resident
                      of the municipality and, where there is more than one ward in the municipality, that the elector is a
                      resident of the ward in which the elector proposes to vote.
